A rare signed edition of Mansour Rahbani’s musical play The Taifa Kings, inscribed and dated in the year of publication.
Rahbani (1925-2009) was a Lebanese composer, poet and musician and the brother-in-law of the singer Fairouz. Together with his brother, Assi, they wrote and performed many popular songs from the 1940s onwards.
Books or other material carrying his signature are now rare.
The Taifa Kings is set in 11th-century Spain and was first performed in 2001, originally starring Ghassan Saliba and Hiba Tawaji.
This example contains a lengthy personal dedication in Arabic to the renowned Syrian journalist Fouad Ballat, a prominent figure in contemporary Syrian media. It is dated 2003 and includes a handwritten quote by Rahbani from the play:
If the king is gone, another king will come.
If the homeland is gone, there is no other homeland.
Softback, in very good condition. Minor edgewear externally. Clean inside except for the author’s inscription.
