[SOLD] Jane Austen – Pride and Prejudice – First Penguin Paperback Edition – 1938

A rare first printing of the 1938 Penguin illustrated classics edition of Jane Austen’s 1813 novel. This is thought to be the first appearance of the book in a modern paperback format.

Illustrated with wood engravings by Helen Binyon.

One of the earliest publications by Penguin, which released a series of ten Illustrated Classics books in May 1938. This is coded C1 in the series.

In very good condition. Minor rubbing, wear to spine and corners, but no major folds or creases to front/rear covers. Neat previous owner’s inscription. Cut-out clipping of Jane Austen profile on title page.
