An early English translation of Zola’s 1892 novel, entitled La Débâcle in the original French.

Set in the Franco-Prussian war, it depicts the defeat and demise of the Second French Empire and was the penultimate book in his 20-volume Rougon-Macquart series.

Published in 1914 by Chatto and Windus in London. Hardback, bound in the original red cloth, with some staining and rubbing to bottom of the front board and the spine. 534 pages. No writing inside.
