Rudyard Kipling – The Jungle Book / The Second Jungle Book – First Edition set
AED14,000
A pair of first printings of The Jungle Book and The Second Jungle Book, published in 1894 and 1895 respectively, and among the most famous pieces of children’s literature ever written.
Set in India, where Kipling lived as a child, the tales include characters such as Mowgli and Baboo, and have been adapted into multiple screen versions over the years.
The books are beautifully designed and bound, with elaborate gilt animal designs to the front boards and black-and-white illustrations throughout, some of which are by Kipling’s father.
Both volumes hardback, first impressions of the first editions, published by Macmillan in London. Bound in the original blue cloth with decorative boards and spine. With engraved frontispieces in each book.
In good condition. Gilt lettering and designs remain bright and clear, slightly more faded on the first volume. Bumps to corners and a little rubbing to the spine. Small tear to inside front hinge of Volume 1. Previous owner’s name inside both volumes.
A very presentable set and scarce in the first printings.
