Rabindranath Tagore – The Fugitive – Presentation Copy with Signed Photograph

A first English printing of this collection of parables and short plays by the Indian Nobel Prize-winning author, Rabindranath Tagore, with an original signed photograph.

This is a rare presentation copy of the first edition, published by Macmillan in London in 1921, with an embossed publisher’s stamp to the title page.

The Fugitive contains 11 different passages, written in the late 19th century, exploring themes of love, the nature of existence, desire, memory and the beauty of life.

Tagore (1861-1941) was the first non-European to win a Nobel Prize, in 1913, largely thanks to his work Gitanjali (Song Offerings). He was also a notable playwright, musician, philosopher and painter, having composed the national anthems of both India and Bangladesh.

The book is accompanied with an original signed portrait photograph of the author, sized 10cm x 15cm. Tagore’s name is signed in blue ink above the image, which is attached to black card.

Tagore’s signature is rare, and particularly with a scarce presentation copy of this work.

Hardback, bound in blue cloth with gilt title lettering to front board and spine. In very good condition. A few marks externally, some rubbing along spine edges and extremities. Binding tight and square. Clean inside with no writing. 200 pages.
