The Quran – 1965 – Mustafa Al-Halabi Press

A 1965 memorial edition of the Quran, beautifully bound by the Mustafa Al-Babi Al-Halabi Press in Cairo.

This edition of the Quran was first published by the press in 1935. This printing is bound in contemporary red morocco, decorated with gilt tooling to the boards and spine.

The Al-Halabi press was founded in Cairo in 1859 by Ahmad Al-Halabi, and went on to print hundreds of Islamic and history titles. It is widely considered to be the second most important publishing house in 19th-century Egypt, after the Bulaq Press. In the second generation of the family business, it split into two branches:  Issa Al-Babi Al-Halabi established a printing house and publishing firm under the name of “Dar Ihya’ al-Kutub al-Arabiyya,”, while his brother Mustafa founded a company for himself and his children under the name of “Mustafa Al-Babi Al-Halabi & Sons Bookstore and Printing Company”.

In near-fine condition, with only the slightest external wear. 528 pages.  36cm x 26cm.
