 A large original engraved map of France, from 1886, with attractive hand-colour.

With a high level of detail, showing settlements, rivers, canals, rail lines, plus locations of important battles and telegraph lines. Features several smaller inset maps showing Corsica, the Paris area, and others. Waterways printed in blue ink, with other outline colour by hand.

Engraved by Alexander Johnston for “The Royal Atlas of Modern Geography exhibiting, in a series of entirely original and authentic maps, the present condition of geographical discovery and research in the several countries, empires and states of the world”, published in 1886 in London.

Overall sheet measures 610mm x 495mm. In good condition, with light toning, fold to centre, a few bumps and minor edgewear.
