A first edition, first printing of Margaret Atwood’s seminal dystopian novel, with an original publisher’s promotional card from the book’s release.

It follows Offred, a Handmaid living in the Republic of Gilead, an imagined future America.  Exploring the subjugation of women in a patriarchal society, the decimation of women’s rights, and their subsequent struggle to regain them, this book remains relevant even in the present day. It has been adapted multiple times for the screen, most recently by Netflix.

The novel was first published in Canada in 1985, before the first US and UK editions a year later, which feature the now-iconic artwork by illustrator Fred Marcellino.

This is a first US edition, first printing published by Houghton Mifflin Harcourt in 1986. In very good condition, with original unclipped dust jacket. Neat previous owner’s name. Binding square and tight.
