Hand-Bound Decorative Quran
AED3,500
A newly-published Quran, in Arabic, specially hand-bound with decorative covers and spine.
Bound in natural-colour fine grain goatskin, or Morocco leather. Front and rear boards have a central square with geometric Islamic patterns in light blue, turquoise and purple, blind-tooled by hand using leather acrylic paint, with gilt separators and a gilt border.
The pattern used on the boards makes reference to the one of the designs used in the 8th-century Grand Mosque in Cordoba, when the town was the capital of the Umayyad Emirate in Andalusia, southern Spain.
The head and tail bands are hand-sewn with organic cotton threads to complement the colours used on the boards, with two satin/polyester bookmark threads in similar tones of light blue and purple.
Bound and produced by a Dubai-based bookbinder, Mohamed al-Fahmy, this is a one-of-a-kind handcrafted piece.
Approximately 620 pages. 20cm x 15cm.
