Charles Darwin – The Origin of Species – 1900

AED850

An attractive 1900 edition of Darwin’s seminal book on natural selection and evolutionary biology, one of the most influential scientific works of all time.

First published in 1859, The Origin of Species sparked fierce debate and controversy in both scientific and religious circles. It was based partly on Darwin’s own observations and findings on his various voyages, notably on the HMS Beagle in the 1930s, which helped formulate his later theories. Titled in full as “On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favoured Races in the Struggle for Life.”

This is a 1900 edition published by John Murray, the new impression with revisions and corrections plus a portrait of the author opposite the title page, separated by a tissue guard.

With a fold-out diagram showing the process of natural selection.

Bound in green cloth with a pattern and lettering to the front board. Hardback. In very good condition externally, a little wear to extremities of the spine. Several previous owner’s names inside. 704 pages including index.
