A first edition of this anthology of essays on the Lebanese diaspora community, signed by the renowned Lebanese-British historian Albert Hourani.

It comprises essays by various commentators and scholars, spanning various aspects of Lebanese migration and the expatriate community over the 19th and 20th centuries. With numerous photographs, maps and other illustrations.

Hourani (1915-1993) was a Lebanese-British historian who taught at the University of Oxford and authored a number of important works on the region in the 1950s and 1960s. He made a major contribution to modern Middle East studies and was influential on numerous other scholars and writers.

In 1991 he released A History of the Arab Peoples, an accessible introduction to the region, which became an international best-seller and his most famous work. He died two years later.

This example is signed by Hourani and the other editor of the book, Nadim Shehadi.

Published in 1992 by I.B. Tauris in London, in association with The Centre for Lebanese Studies. Hardback, first edition, 741 pages. In very good condition.
