A very well-preserved edition of this gothic novel, set in the Abbasid period, about a fictional caliph called Vathek.

Originally published in the 1780s in French, this is the second impression of the 1893 edition, and one of 1,500 copies.

Illustrated with B&W sketches.

Hardback, bound in green cloth with decorative gilt cover and spine, and gilt top edge. Published in 1900 by Gibbings & Company. In very good condition. Previous owner’s inscription. Externally, only very minor bumps to corners.
