Wilfred Thesiger – Arabian Sands – First Edition 1959
AED2,200
A superb first edition, first printing of Wilfred Thesiger’s best-known book, and an all-time classic piece of travel literature.
It charts Thesiger’s pioneering journey across the Empty Quarter of the Arabian Peninsula in the late 1940s, mostly in the present-day UAE, with dozens of stunning B&W photographs of people and places.
Also features a colour pull-out folding map in the rear pocket, showing the various journeys Thesiger undertook in the period.
Known in the UAE as ‘Mubarak Bin London’, he stayed numerous times in Al Ain and regularly features in exhibitions and archive showcases in the town.
In very good condition indeed. Hardback. Original dust jacket, not price-clipped, with some very minor marks and edgewear. Clean inside, with no writing or inscriptions. Bright contents with none of the usual internal spotting/foxing often found on this title.
Published by Longmans in 1959 in London.
