A very attractive Victorian bible, with several colour maps of the Holy Land.
Comprises three Christian texts in one volume, titled in full as The Book of Common Prayer and Administration of the Sacraments, and Other Rites and Ceremonies of the Church According to the Use of the United Church of England and Ireland: together with The Psalter or Psalms of David, Pointed as they are to be sung or said in Churches. And the Form and Manner of Making, Ordaining, and Consecrating of Bishops, Priests, and Deacons.
Published by Samuel Bagster and Sons in London. Not dated, but c.1840s. This is the English version of the ‘Polyglot Bible’ series by the same publisher, which included versions in French, Italian, Greek, Latin and Spanish.
Includes four colour maps, including a plan of Jerusalem, a world map, and two of the Holy Land.
Bound in blind-stamped dark brown morocco with embossed boards and a brass metal clasp, functioning as normal. Raised bands and gilt lettering on the spine. All edges gilt.
Neat contemporary owner’s name inside, otherwise clean with no other markings. Slight rubbing to extremities of spine. In very good condition.
