[SOLD] T.E. Lawrence – Revolt in the Desert – 1927 First Edition

Revolt in the Desert is the abridged version of Seven Pillars of Wisdom, the memoir of Lawrence of Arabia recounting his time in the Middle East during the Arab uprising against the Ottomans during and after the First World War.

It was published specifically for the American market, with the trade version of Seven Pillars of Wisdom not released in the UK until 1935.

This is the rarer Kennington ‘Gift’ issue of the first American edition of the book, published by George Doran in New York in March 1927.

With 23 plates plus a folding map in red and black, and other illustrations in text. Hardback, bound in brown cloth, lettering to spine. A little bumping to top of spine. Neat previous owner’s name to front pastedown. 335 pages.

Includes numerous B&W sketch portraits of key characters from the book, as well as a fold-out map of the region. With eight illustrations by Eric Kennington, who also designed the endpapers in black and white.
