Margaret Atwood – The Handmaid’s Tale – First Edition 1986

AED2,600

Margaret Atwood’s seminal novel follows Offred, a Handmaid living in the Republic of Gilead, a dystopian future America.  Exploring the subjugation of women in a patriarchal society, the decimation of women’s rights, and their subsequent struggle to regain them, this book remains relevant even in the present day.

The book was first published in Canada in 1985, before the first US and UK editions a year later, which feature the now-iconic artwork by illustrator Fred Marcellino.

This is a rare first edition, first printing published by Jonathan Cape in London in 1986. In very good condition with original unclipped wrapper. Clean inside with no writing or marking. Tanning to extremities of pages and text block. Minor spotting to inside front flap. Binding square and tight.

A very collectible title, and increasingly difficult to find in this condition.
