Steel engraving of Roman Palestine, published in London in 1843 by the Society for the Diffusion of Useful Knowledge (SDUK). Entitled “Palestine in the Time of our Saviour”.

Map extends from Gaza in the southwest to al-Tafilah (75km north of Petra) in the southeast, and Sidon (Lebanon) in the northwest, Damascus (Syria) in the north) and Bosra (Syria) in the west. Inset map of Ancient Jerusalem.

Hand coloured in ink, in excellent condition, c400x330mm

Engraved by William Hughes (1818-76) for the collected atlas of 200 SDUK maps published by Chapman and Hall in the 1840s.
