An attractive illustrated 1940s edition of this classic American coming-of-age novel, which was published in the late 1860s.

It follows the lives of four sisters as they journey from childhood to becoming adults, and was loosely based on the author’s own experiences. The book was a critical and commercial success and has been adapted multiple times for stage and screen.

This is a mid-1940s edition published by Gawthorn in London. Hardback, bound in light green cloth with full-page colour illustrations and decorated endpapers.

In very good condition. Clean inside with no writing. Some very minor wear externally. Binding tight and square.
