A unique 1970s edition of Gibran’s Prophet, signed by the Sudanese writer Tayib Salih (1929-2009).
Salih was best-known for his 1966 novel in Arabic, Season of Migration to the North, which explores themes of European and British colonialism in Sudan, and their impact on contemporary conflicts in the country. It is frequently cited as one of the finest and most important Arabic-language novels of the 20th century. The book was first serialised in a Beirut-based journal, and first translated into English in 1969.
He worked for various organisations, including the BBC and UNESCO, and is regarded as one of the most important Arab writers of the past century.
Any books carrying his signature are rare.
This edition of The Prophet is a 1972 printing in London by Heinemann, with B&W sketches by the author. Part of a series of reissues of all Gibran’s main works from the 1960s.
Hardback, original jacket, in very good condition. Minor edgewear. Clean inside except for Salih’s signature and inscription, in light blue pen to the opening page.
