[SOLD] Jane Austen – Pride and Prejudice – 1894 Peacock edition, First Printing

A scarce first printing of the celebrated 1894 Peacock edition of Pride and Prejudice, published by George Allen in London.

Arguably the most desirable of any issue of Jane Austen’s romantic novel, its cover design has since become iconic and widely used on later issues of the book – as well as tote bags, notebooks and other accessories.

Illustrated with 100 wood engravings throughout by Hugh Thomson, including a frontispiece with tissue guard. This was the first issue of Pride and Prejudice to feature illustrations.

Hardback, first printing, 1894. Decorative boards with gilt lettering and gilt edges to text block. Plain dark green spine with lettering. Dark green endpapers. In original cloth binding. Good/very good condition. Front board clean and bright with no rubbing. Top-right corner slightly bumped. A few stains and marks to rear board. Some spotting and marks to contents, but mostly clean. Previous owner’s inscription.
