Hans Germani – White Soldiers in Black Africa – 1967 First Edition
AED875
A very hard-to-find example of this account of mercenary action in the 1960s Congo, written by a German journalist on the ground.
Subtitled ‘Here is an eye-witness report of the battles fought by Mike Hoare and his men in the Congo’, referring to ‘Mad’ Mike Hoare, a British-Irish mercenary leader.
Hoare was involved in the attempt by the Katanga province to secure independence from the newly-established Congo in the early 1960s, and then later in other rebellions in the country. His exploits were partly used as the basis for the 1970s movie The Wild Geese.
Translated from the German original. Published in 1967 by Nasionale Boekhandel in Cape Town. First and only edition.
Hardback, with the original dust jacket, not price clipped. Minor edgewear to jacket, previous owner’s inscription inside. Clean and bright otherwise. Rare.
