[SOLD] General Map of Egypt – c.1940

A large and attractive colour map of Egypt dating from approximately 1940, printed in colour in Alexandria, showing a high level of detail.

The map was drawn by Alexander Nicohosoff, an engineer who owned the ‘Art Graphic’ company in Alexandria, which produced a range of maps and plans of the country.

It folds into a beige-coloured wrapper with titles and description in blue, along with advertisements for other maps in the same series.

The map shows detail of towns, cities, roads and waterways, provincial boundaries, airfields, railway lines and more. It has several inset boxes showing Upper Egypt and a zoomed-out view of the country itself.

It was drawn in the early stages of World War Two, before the northern and desert areas of the country saw major fighting between the British and German armies.

Map is in very good condition, clean with no stains or markings. The beige wrapper has some edgewear, as is common from this period, and a very faint previous owner’s name written above the title.

Sized 89cm x 64cm.

Scale 1:500,000.
