[SOLD] Dubai Guide and Map – 1973

An original map and guide to Dubai dating from the early 1970s, published by the Dubai Petroleum Company (DPC).

Material from this period of Dubai’s history is rarely found outside of private collections or institutions.

The set comprises:

“Guide to Dubai” map

A rare map showing the original area of Dubai, dated 1973. Shows Ruler’s Palace, Dubai Creek, Port Rashid, Airport, Bur Dubai, Deira, Satwa areas, plus clinics, schools, hotels, hospitals and other key landmarks from the period.

Provided to foreign employees of DPC who were newly-arrived in the city. Originally produced in March 1968, when DPC began to ramp up its presence in Dubai, this is the revised edition of the map from April 1973.

Folded, 68cm x 54cm. Some fading and tanning to folds and edges but overall in good condition.

Includes sections on history, geography, people, climate, public services, shopping, schools, lifestyle.

Designed as an introduction for foreign nationals moving to the Emirate to work for DPC. With fold-out colour city map of Dubai, plus Arabian Gulf and Musandam Peninsula. Dozens of contemporary B&W photos.
