A first edition of the seventh novel by Charles Dickens, bound from the original monthly parts. Titled in full as “Dealings with the Firm of Dombey and Son. Wholesale, Retail and for Exportation.”

The book was originally serialised between 1846 and 1848. It tells the story of a wealthy shipping firm owner who initially rejects his daughter’s affections before later becoming reconciled.

Hardback, bound in polished black calf with decorative borders. Raised bands to spine, gilt lettering on a burgundy compartment, decorative motifs.

Engraved frontispiece and title page, with 40 plates by Phiz (Hablot K. Browne), including the ‘dark’ plate on p347. First issue with various identification points, including the misspelt ‘Capatin’ on Page 324 and others.

Published in 1848 by Bradbury and Evans in London.

Octavo (22cm x 14cm). 624 pages. In good/very good condition. Minor rubbing to corners and spine edges, a few marks and scuffs to boards. Clean inside with no inscriptions or bookplates. Binding tight and square.
