Beyrouth Centre Ville – 1992
AED3,300
A rare example of this unique photographic record of Downtown Beirut, undertaken immediately after the end of the 1975-1990 Lebanese Civil War.
It features images by six photographers who were invited in late 1991 to capture the largely destroyed city centre, which marked the no man’s land between east and west Beirut during parts of the conflict. The photographers were Gabriele Basilico, Rene Burri, Raymond Depardon, Fouad Elkoury, Robert Frank, and Josef Koudelka.
The book documents a window in time before the area was redeveloped and rebuilt by the real estate developer Solidere, driven forward by the late Lebanese prime minister Rafik Hariri.
This is the first French-language edition, published in 1992 by Éditions du Cyprès. Printed in France. 169 pages, with full-page photographs in colour and black-and-white.
