Andy Warhol – The Philosophy of Andy Warhol (From A to B and Back Again) – Signed

AED9,500

A signed first edition of the collected thoughts of American artist Andy Warhol (1928-1987), published in 1975.

Much of the material in the book was based on taped interviews with Warhol, and spans his thoughts on topics such as beauty, fame, death, art, success, time and others.

In the mid-70s Warhol had developed his Factory studio in New York into a multi-pronged business venture, capitalising on his prominent public persona. Later in the decade he would establish a specific book publishing arm, while continuing to paint portraits and take on other commissions including set designs.

While many first editions of this book were simply initialled by Warhol (‘AW’) prior to the title’s release, this is a rarer example with the author’s name signed in full, along with a note saying ‘New York 1975’.  Around this period Warhol had undertaken a major US and international tour across the UK and Europe to promote the book.

First edition. Hardback, published in 1975 by Harcourt, Brace, Jovanovich in New York. In very good condition indeed. Original unclipped jacket with minimal year. Previous owner’s gift inscription to title page. Clean and bright inside.
