Hourani (1915-1993) was a Lebanese-British historian who taught at the University of Oxford and authored a number of important works on the region in the 1950s and 1960s. He made a major contribution to modern Middle East studies and was influential on numerous other scholars and writers.

In 1991 he released A History of the Arab Peoples, an accessible introduction to the region, which became an international best-seller and his most famous work. He died two years later.

This a first edition, first printing of the book, published by Harvard University Press in 1991. In very good condition. Hardback, original jacket. 552 pages.
