Jane Austen – Pride and Prejudice – First Penguin Paperback Edition – 1938

First printing of the 1938 Penguin illustrated classics edition of Jane Austen’s 1813 novel. This is thought to be the first appearance of the book in a modern paperback format.

Illustrated with wood engravings by Helen Binyon.

Original dust jacket, intact, with some toning and minor loss to top and bottom of spine. Clean inside with no previous owner’s name or inscriptions. Some toning internally, but overall a very good copy in unusually good condition for its age and format.
