An attractive and well-preserved 1807 edition of The Iliad, the epic ancient Greek poem attributed to Homer.

One of the oldest surviving pieces of literature, dating from the 7th or 8th century BC, the work is divided into 24 sections. It follows events in the final days of the Trojan War and the central characters of Hector, Achilles and Agamemnon.

This is an 1807 pocket-size edition printed by Ellerton and Byworth for J. Walker and others. Hardback, bound in full leather with five raised bands to spine and gilt lettering on a red background. Frontispiece illustration.

Binding tight and square. Neat contemporary owner’s inscription, otherwise no writing inside and contents clean. Externally some rubbing to spine and bumps to corners. 559 pages.13cm x 8cm.
