[SOLD] A New Map of Arabia (c.1700)
Copper engraved map of Arabia, first published in Modern’s Atlas Terestris, first published in 1687, based on contemporary sources.
It shows extensive and largely accurate knowledge of many cities in the region, such as Damascus, Medina, Mecca, Yanbu, Aden, Muscat, Bahrain, Qatif, Baghdad, Basra and Isfahan.
Hand coloured in very good condition. 12x14cm (excluding frame and mount).
Morden (c1650-1703) was one of the first commercial mapmakers, who published at his shop under the sign of the Atlas in Cornhill, London. His major publications include the Atlas Terestris and the larger, revised Geography Rectified (1700).
